Es gibt sie also doch noch: die Verbindung zwischen Funktionalität und Schönheit. Daher gilt mein Respekt, mein Lob zunächst dem Verlag, dem ein wunderbar schönes Buch gelungen ist, in dem Inhalt (Text) und Machart gekonnt und geheimnisvoll zugleich zueinander finden. Obwohl ich gestehen muss, dass mich die Aufmachung des Buches zunächst etwas irritierte, verbunden mit der Frage: Was soll das? „Zusammengebundene“, gefalzte Seiten – so ein Unsinn! Verschwendung von Ressourcen. Irritierung des Käufers (Stichwort: Mogelpackung). Diese und ähnliche Gedanken drängten sich unmittelbar auf.Doch gleich beim verstehenden Einstieg in den Text, nach einer bewussteren Berührung des Buches wurde mir die Bedeutungsschwere dieser Machart bewusst. Hielt sich doch ein Buch in Händen, dessen Inhalt nicht nur mein Interesse befriedigte, sondern zugleich auch schön war, schön anzusehen und – schön anzufühlen, äußerst stimmig zum Thema des Buches, in dem es um Schönheit geht. Schönheit, in vielen Facetten beleuchtet, Schönheit, die man spürt und die förmlich strahlt. Der Leser wird berührt, zweifelsohne. Ja, man möchte dieses Buch streicheln (auch wenn es ein wenig kitschig klingt), umso intensiver, je tiefer man in den Text einsteigt. Ein Text, der beschwingt und anfeuert, weil dort vieles gesagt wird, was zwar schon vorhanden, aber oft, zu oft von einer rauen Schale überdeckt ist. Dieses Buch schafft es, diese Schale zu zertrümmern, schafft neuen Raum, schafft ein Bewusstsein, sich dem Leben, seinem Leben auf eine neue, entspanntere und gleichzeitig schönere Art zu nähern und in ihm aufzugehen.Soweit mein eigenes Erleben. Aber was ist es, jenseits dieser Erfahrung, genau, welche Inhalte (auch welche Stilmittel) schaffen ein solche Wirkung? Man wird nicht umhinkommen, dieses Buch zu lesen. Eine Inhaltsangabe kann nur bedingt wiedergeben, was beim Lesen passiert. Es ist kein Fachbuch im engeren Sinne, da es zwar auch Wissen vermittelt, aber die persönlichen Erfahrungen und Ansichten des Autors miteinbindet. Anders geht es nicht bei diesem Thema. Denn alle Kunst ist zunächst die Kunst des Kunstschaffenden, ob sie sich auch anderen Menschen erschließt, ist oft auch eine Frage der Zeit (leider oft auch eine Frage der Mode; auch dieser Aspekt wird hier beleuchtet). Die literarische Kunst hat es meist schwieriger, sie erfordert Arbeit und Zeit, und es gibt kein individuell eindeutiges Objekt – außer dem Titel, zusammen mit dem Autorennamen. Hier kommt noch der haptische Effekt hinzu, einer der sich ins Innere des Buches fortsetzt und dort zwischen den Kapiteln aufscheint.Es sind äußerst feinsinnige Darstellungen von (der Form der) Schönheit, die hier ihren Niederschlag finden, was sie bedeutet, woran sie erkennbar wird und worin sie ihren Niederschlag findet (sei es bei der Zubereitung von Tee oder beim Besuch eines Kaffeehauses), letztlich kulminierend im „Loblied“ an die Frau: „[…] ist nicht der Mensch das größte Wunderwerk der Natur – sondern: die Frau.“ Dabei bleibt es nicht bei dieser Aussage: sie wird gewogen, begründet von vielen Seiten beleuchtet und damit nachvollziehbar und – spürbar. Liebe und Sex werden nicht ausgeblendet, auch die Prostituierten bekommen eine galante Zuschreibung: „Prostituierte sind Sozialarbeiter, die nicht nur reden; sie sind ‚Psychologen in Unterwäsche‘.“Allemal wird Schönheit erst im Anblick von Hässlichkeit besonders gut erkennbar und erlebbar. Ein Beispiel aus diesem Buch sind Schulgebäude, verbunden mit der Frage, wie sich hässliche Zweckbauten auf den Lerneffekt (und letztlich auf das zukünftige Leben der Schüler) auswirken, im Gegensatz beispielsweise zu altehrwürdigen (schönen) Schulgebäuden: „Die Bildung ist von der Schönheit nicht abzukoppeln; sonst bleibt nur noch Qualifikation.“ Eine solche Zuschreibung gilt selbstredend auch für den Arbeitsplatz: „Früher galt: Ein Ort, an dem man einen großen Teil seines Lebens arbeitend verbringt, muss schön sein, damit nicht Leben, Handel und Werk hässlich werden.“Kurz: Inhalt und Erzählstil sowie Machart und Haptik des Buches passen ideal zusammen. Der Text bereichert das Leben und entspannt es zugleich. Vieles erscheint bedenkenswert, einiges nachahmenswert. Allein die Schilderungen über Cafés motivieren dazu, ein solches aufzusuchen. Ein möglichst schönes, ohne laute Musik, zusammen mit schöner Lektüre, wahlweise schöner Begleitung … Dieses Buch hat das Potential, Menschen zu berühren.
